My Favourite Hair Products for Thick, Hard-to-Manage Hair
If you have thick hair, you know it’s both a blessing and a full-time job. From frizz and dryness to products that feel way too heavy (or somehow do nothing at all), finding what actually works can be frustrating.
After lots of trial and error, I’ve finally narrowed down the hair products I actually use on my thick hair, the ones I keep repurchasing and rely on in my everyday routine. 1. Ginger shampoo by the body shop
I have psoriasis on my scalp so have used prescription shampoo for years. My sister said that the Ginger Shampoo from The Body Shop was working on my nieces scalp so I changed and have been using this ever since. I actually switched to try out a shampoo from my advent calendar recently and my scalp got bad again so have switched back. It was a great reminder of how amazing this shampoo is.
2. Kérastase Nutritive, Deep Nutrition Soft Mask
My mum used to send me to town when I was a kid to buy this and it was £13, which I remember because she always gave me the exact money lol! Well of course it’s not £13 now but the most amazing investment for your hair. It intensely nourishes, smooths and strengthens thick hair. I use it like a conditioner but you can leave it on as you would a mask. I usually do this on holiday.
3. Maria Nila True Soft, Argan Oil
I love a hair oil. I apply after I have dried and curled my hair. I got the Maria Nila oil in my advent calendar so haven’t been using it long but can confirm it is by far the most effective oil i’ve used. A pea sized amount (so a bottle will last forever) coats all my hair and makes it glossy, feel stronger and just finishes off my styles and curls beautifully. I am fully converted and cannot wait to try other products from the range.
4. ghd Platinum+ Hair Straightener & Professional Styler
My best friend. You cannot beat GHD as a brand. My sister (the hairdresser) agrees. I tried a few other brands but I always come back to GHD. I straighten and curl my hair with these. I have a Dyson Airwrap (the styler with all the heads) which I curl my hair with and the curls look amazing but they never stay. My GHD on the other hand never fails me.
5. Dyson Airstrait™ Straightener and Dryer
This was my new purchase for 2025. I honestly thought it was a bit gimmicky BUT I now cannot live without it. Dries my hair from root to tip in 15-20 mins. And super straight. One of the things I love about Dyson hair products is that they use so much less heat and my hair always feels strong, soft and looks shiny when I’m done
