Private Chef Dinner Party at Home: Menu Wine & Pairings

Hosting a dinner party always feels special, but having a private chef take care of the food and drinks makes the whole experience even more memorable. Instead of spending the evening in the kitchen, we were able to relax and enjoy the company while each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. From the first drink to the final dish, every part of the menu felt carefully curated for the occasion. In this post I’m sharing a look at everything we enjoyed throughout the evening from the delicious food to the perfectly paired drinks that made the night feel truly special.

The Menu
When hosting a dinner party at home, one of the best decisions you can make is hiring a private chef. Not only does it take the pressure off the host, but it also turns the evening into a really memorable dining experience for your guests. For this particular dinner party, we had the pleasure of working with Daniel Britten, our friend who works as a private chef, who designed the entire menu for the evening.
To make the night feel even more special, I created printed dinner party menus using a Canva template, which I then ordered directly through Canva so each guest had a copy at the table. Earlier in the week, I also shared the dinner party menu in our WhatsApp group, as I always think it’s nice for guests to know what they’ll be eating ahead of time and it helps build excitement before the evening.
The menu itself was fully created by Daniel Britten, with my only input being any guest allergies or foods people didn’t enjoy. Having a private chef create the menu for a dinner party was such a luxury, as it meant we could trust his expertise and creativity completely.
One thing Daniel got absolutely right was the number of courses. The menu was perfectly paced for a dinner party flow, allowing time for conversation between courses and giving the evening a natural structure as each dish was served. It made the whole experience feel relaxed but still special.
All of the food was prepared off-site and Daniel arrived at our house at around 3pm to begin setting up for the dinner party. Everything was organised and ready well before guests arrived, and he briefly left around 5pm to pick up our friend (his wife) before returning for the evening.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I think every dinner party needs a little bit of organised fun to get everyone talking. For this dinner party, Daniel arranged something really unique. A member of his family, who specialises in wine and designing wine cellars, selected a wine pairing for each course so we could enjoy a wine tasting alongside the meal.
This turned the evening into a wine tasting dinner party experience, and it sparked so much conversation around the table. Even as someone who isn’t usually a big wine drinker, I was really impressed with how well each wine paired with the food. Every wine complemented its course perfectly, which made the whole private chef dinner party feel even more thoughtful and special.

For our dinner party, the wine pairings were selected by Giles from The Independent Vintner, who specialises in curating wines for private events and home dining experiences. Giles thoughtfully recommended two wine options for each course, along with clear pricing for each bottle, which made it easy for us to choose wines that suited both the menu and our budget.
As we had eight guests attending the dinner party, we decided to purchase two bottles of each selected wine, which turned out to be the perfect amount for the evening. This allowed everyone to enjoy the wine tasting experience alongside each course while keeping the flow of the dinner relaxed and sociable.

Overall, hosting a private chef dinner party at home was such a special experience and something I would absolutely do again. Being able to enjoy the evening with our guests instead of spending the night in the kitchen made the whole event feel much more relaxed, while still having beautifully prepared food and thoughtful wine pairings.
Not having to worry about the food or drinks also meant I could focus on the parts of hosting that I really love welcoming our guests, styling the table, and adding those little finishing touches that make a dinner party feel special. It also gave me time to properly get ready and glam up for the evening, which is something that often gets rushed when you’re cooking for a crowd.
The combination of Daniel’s carefully designed menu and the wine pairings from Giles at The Independent Vintner created a dinner that felt both elevated and incredibly enjoyable. Each course flowed perfectly into the next, and the wine tasting element added a fun, interactive aspect that really got everyone talking around the table.
If you’re thinking about hosting a dinner party with a private chef, I couldn’t recommend it enough. It’s a wonderful way to bring people together, enjoy incredible food, and create a memorable evening without the usual stress of cooking everything yourself. For us, it truly felt like bringing a restaurant-quality dining experience into our home, and it made for one of the most enjoyable dinner parties we’ve hosted.
And honestly, the night ends perfectly too because when the last guest leaves and the evening winds down, the trip up to bed is wonderfully short.
